What’s the Deal with Chemical Peels?

2 minutes estimated reading time

We all want younger, smoother-looking skin, which has been hard to achieve. Now, this treatment may sound way scarier than it is, but a chemical peel is better than it sounds. It is a vital part of skin treatment, helping to reduce skin discoloration, fade scars, treat wrinkles, and even more. The biggest questions now are what a chemical peel is and how to include this in your skincare routine. Well, let us talk about the basics.

A chemical peel is a skin-resurfacing procedure where a qualified esthetician applies a chemical solution to someone’s skin to remove the top layers. The skin growing back will be smoother, younger, and overall healthier. There are three different types of peels available, all with different missions. The three most common types of peels are based on depths, light, medium, and deep, which all use different chemicals to give you a different outcome.

A light chemical peel (the superficial chemical peel) removes the outermost layer of skin. It is often used to treat fine lines, wrinkles, acne, uneven skin tones, and dryness. These types of peels can be done safely every 2-5 weeks.

A medium chemical peel removes skin cells like the light version. Still, it takes it a step further by peeling from portions of the upper part of your middle layer of skin. This type of peel is only recommended every 3-9 months because of its intensity.

And lastly, we have the deep chemical peel. This type of peel is the most extreme. The deep peel will remove skin cells from all 3 layers of your skin. Doctors only suggest this when a patient has precancerous growths, scars, or deep-set wrinkles. This peel should only ever be done once on the skin.
