You’ve been eating right and exercising, but you still have that stubborn fat hanging around your stomach area. Or maybe you have a double chin that just will not go away! There are some cryotherapy methods out there that have been proven to reduce the amount of fat and cellulite in your body. CoolSculpting® and Cryo T-Shock are two cryotherapy methods that are out there. But which one is better and correct for you?

The CoolSculpting® procedure is FDA-cleared for treating visible fat bulges under the chin and under the jawline, thigh, abdomen, and flank, along with bra fat, back fat, underneath the buttocks, and upper arm. It is also FDA-cleared to affect the appearance of lax tissue with submental (under the chin) area treatments. For most areas, the process takes about 35 minutes. After the deep freeze damage to the fat cells, they will eventually die and be eliminated by the body — a process which takes about 1-3 months or more, resulting in up to 20%-25% reduction of fat in a treated area.

Before and After Cryo T-Shock
Before and after Cryo T-Shock.

Cryo T-Shock promotes fat loss by breaking down fat cells by starting the treatment with heat, then a prolonged period of cold, then heat again. This process lowers the temperature of the targeted fat cells to between 12℃ and 17℃, triggering a phenomenon called apoptosis (a naturally controlled cell death). Then the body naturally flushes the fat cells out through the bloodstream and then the lymphatic system in a few days to weeks following the treatment resulting in fat loss. Cryo T-Shock is also currently FDA-approved to treat the stomach, “love handles,” back, thighs, and the under the chin area. This service can be done 10-14 days apart, depending on how quickly your lymphatic system flows. Most treatments take about 25 minutes.

The CoolSculpting® technique uses a solid block that applies suction to the treatment area. The excess fat is sucked into a block, and you’re then left alone. Cryo T-Shock uses a hand-held wand that applies both heat and cold initiating thermal shock to the fat cells. The thermal shock helps break down dead fat cells so your body can dispose of them more easily. Cryo T-Shock’s treatments are significantly lower in price. A medium to large package deal (5-10 sessions) with the Cryo T-Shock can run the same amount as a single CoolSculpting® treatment.
