There are too many stories that happen the same way. You go out with your friends and have what seems to be a never-ending night, and then someone chimes in with the terrible idea: ‘We should get tattoos!’ Although the normal you would have stopped and thought about it, the 3 a.m. peer-pressured version of you is completely interested in the idea. One thing leads to another, and you find yourself waking up the next evening and seeing ink on your body that wasn’t there the night before. You grab your phone, and you frantically search ‘tattoo removal‘ and try to figure out how much it will cost you to remove your mistake. Luckily, tattoo removal is much easier to find nowadays than it was even within the last decade.
Laser tattoo removal first came around in 1967 but, because of the limitations on technology, was rather ineffective to remove the whole tattoo. However, as technology progressed, the lasers used for removal did as well. This led to the creation of the Q-switched lasers (what we use at Fairlawn Aesthetics) that are much more effective than previous lasers and can also create the desired effect in fewer treatment sessions than the 694 Ruby laser that was used in the original removal. These lasers use high energy levels to target colors at different wavelengths and break up the ink while dealing minimal damage to the patient’s skin.
